Do I Sound Strange?

"My voice defines me; I think I am a good narrator."

The beginning suggests a rather self-actualization concept, right? It is a direct claim and quite rigorous in that it is filled with confidence. It is actually a solution to understand how good you are at new things you try, like how I did with a podcast assignment. Like a mantra in this sense of usage.

"You are wondering about the podcast, aren't you? Well, here it is!"

For this post, my partner Mert (you can access his blog through here) and I were tasked to prepare a podcast and were eligible to choose from 3 types [vox-pop, improving the world (preparing an individual podcast), and a sound-rich story]. Considering it would be better to work together and learn new things in the process, we decided to prepare a sound-rich story about a student nicknamed "Genius" who goes through an immediate character shift after he witnesses a murder.

"I am sure you are also wondering about what we have been through to get this task done."

The process had a quite hilarious start, really. We decided to write the script while we were in a cafe discussing life and personal experiences with our friend group, which happened to be drinking bubble tea and jumping from one concept to another. We decided that the main theme should be gloomy, stressful, and relatable to everyday life in a way. However, the process was not all that easy. The editing app we used had a lot of priced content, and it was literally impossible to carry on with the free ones as they did not fit in with the atmosphere of the story and its tone. After thinking about it a minute or two (this happened after we narrated our story, by the way, so you can imagine how painful it is 😠), we said, "Why don't we create our own background sounds?" and went on with that idea. After we were finished with the editing, we tried to export the video, and to our surprise, the app we used (Webshare) caused us some "undesired" problems (we were literally at the brink of throwing the computer out of the window, but then we remembered we were students and couldn't afford a new one :)). After figuring out how to export it, we were relieved to call it for the day.

"I am definitely going to encourage my students to prepare such a task."

I cannot deny that I was frustrated at the initial stages of the task, but as I went on with the process, accompanied by my friend Mert, I came to realize that preparing a podcast allows one to realize what they can actually do with their creativity. Speaking on behalf of preparing a story, a student can realize that his/her knowledge about his/her environment can come in handy when scheming about what kind of things he/she finds worthy of talking about and sharing it with his/her audience (differentiating between the necessary and unnecessary). Additionally, it allows learners the chance to experience how editing works and its practicality to shape things to their own taste. For example, in case there is an annoying sound interruption, a student can easily remove it or shape it for the sake of the podcast and his/her story.

I HATE GOODBYES!

"After all we've been through, is this how things will end?" "Hello world..." was the first utterance we were to see...
