FIRST DIGITAL WORKSHEET

GOT A LOT TO SAY ABOUT THIS ONE

Greetings; lads! Today I am back with an interesting activity I’ve prepared with my friends (Mert and Ozan), and that is a digital worksheet. Now, let’s talk about what we’ve been through, aye?

For this task, we were asked to prepare a lesson plan following the ASSURE model by paying close attention to its components and sub-components, and also a digital worksheet activity with direct use of a corpus. Me and my friends tried our best to follow the 4 key principles (test student knowledge, hands-on corpus searches by students, inductive discovery by students, and output exercise) proposed by Ma et al. (2021) for corpus utilization, to integrate this technology into our design (the link could be found below). While we were preparing this task, we’ve been through several problems, but the only one worthy of mentioning is when we were choosing our topic. We first decided to teach about “could” and “would” but later realised that it was not part of the theme we chose (School Life). So, we went to the contents section and found out about which grammatical items were taught in each theme and reached a consensus on teaching “must” and “have to.” However, I would be lying if I were to say I didn’t enjoy the process; I really did. It was nice to be free in our choice of layer and what to include. I guess worksheets are one way to compensate for the strictness of our profession. Nonetheless, there is one thing I am quite concerned about if our activity were to be implemented in a class, and it is the corpus activity. Although we chose CorpusMate to facilitate the activity for its user-friendly interface and simple functionality, it is hard to find appropriate sentences to grasp the topic. This may lead the teacher to spend more time on this part and therefore have limited time for the remaining exercises.

SO LONG 😊

!AN UPDATE!

Sorry for the late reminder, lads, but some parts've been changed in our worksheet and also in our lesson plan. For the former one we've added a section to introduce what a corpus is, switched the corpus we used to SKELL from CorpusMate, enumerated the exercises for ease of organization, changed the colors of the tables in two of the exercises, and determined specific sentences for corpus use. Lastly, you can access the new version of our lesson plan through the link below.

I HATE GOODBYES!

"After all we've been through, is this how things will end?"

"Hello world..." was the first utterance we were to see on those monitors of ours. Maybe this simple utterance was a sign of what technology could do, or it was a mere attempt to break the chains men stringed onto these devices; who knows? But one thing is for sure: there's no way we can run away from its impacts, and thus we should adapt."

I've Found a Digital Partner!

"Mother used to warn me not to talk to strangers, but this 'thing' is different."

"Hello everyone! I was quick this time and brought another 'intriguing' concept to share with you all. Today's post is about Magic School's ChatBot!"

We Prepared a Digital Story!!!

"Why not make a story that is too riveting and humorous, and one that can make you realize how life actually works?"

It's been so long, hasn't it, fellas? But don't any of you worry now, because I got something to entertain and even stimulate some of you to try it yourself!

Do I Sound Strange?

"My voice defines me; I think I am a good narrator."

The beginning suggests a rather self-actualization concept, right? It is a direct claim and quite rigorous in that it is filled with confidence. It is actually a solution to understand how good you are at new things you try, like how I did with a podcast assignment. Like a mantra in this sense of usage.

First Infographic - First Step

A New Experience

"I hate the internet, but I can't get enough of it."

Hello, my dear fellows! Did you guys come back to check up on me, or did you accidentally click on my blog? Either way, you are stuck with me, and you are going to listen to me :). Now let me talk about the things I went through to publish this post and prepare an infographic from ashes.

21st Century Learning: Where Are We and What Do We Do?

I Understand What It is but do We All?

We are now approaching an alien called the 21st century learning. Be quiet and don't make a sound; it is quite sensitive and the last of its kind. Listen to me and you will be fine.

21st century learning is a bit “French” for us, considering although we are involved in it, we do not fully realize what it is. From my point of view, we can define it as “Education in anytime, anywhere” considering the aspects of life learning has reached out to. Since it includes the term learning, the concept itself is not confined only to some domains of learning but the overall phenomenon. One of these domains is language teaching, and it is probably one of the quickest ones to adapt itself to the novel approaches the 21st century has brought. Considering the opportunities technology brings about, such as interactive quizzes, vocabulary puzzles, etc., the tenets of 21st century learning hold a crucial part in language teaching. I genuinely believe that, in accordance with what I previously mentioned, with the new generation being ever more engaged with the technological devices, it becomes rather obligatory for education practitioners to adopt such devices and make use of them during language teaching. Especially the kids’ interest in video games, for instance, and that it results in a rather persistent understanding of what they are engaged with, it is most likely to be the same if a program with such attributes is used while teaching a foreign language. To summarize, pen and paper became obsolete as technology advanced onwards as the years passed and the interest of learners (regardless of the age groups) shifted to more technology-based practices. By making use of such advancements or at least by following the recent ones, education can fully adapt itself to the current century, and we should pursue it!

Welcome My Friends!

 We Always Say "Hi!"

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog page. It is a new experience for me to be engaged with people from wide array of audience in an environment such as Blogger and sharing my thoughts and experiences with them, so I am a bit nerveous but at the same time HAPPY and LUCKY to be able to experience such an opportunity. The reason behind my attempt to start a blog stems from Instructional Technologies and Materials Design course offered by Mustafa Hoca. According to the directives and also for the sake of us as the students, my posts will mostly be about education and its subtopics and also about my reflections regarding those topics. In my point of view, I saw this tasks as an opportunity to be more engaged in the online world and also a chance to share my ideas in a more relaxed environment (most of us don't like talking face to face, you all know it). Feel free to leave a comment and sit tight for more intellectual content.

THANK YOU!
